Letter regarding the Governor closing schools to on-site instruction through May 22nd

Dear SCCSD Learning Community,

Today, April 6th, Gov. Hutchinson made the decision to close all public schools in Arkansas through end of the school year.  For the South Conway County School District (SCCSD) the school year was scheduled to be completed on May 22nd

The SCCSD will be conducting “AMI” days Monday-Friday through May 22nd.  The SCCSD will not have school on Friday, April 10th to observe the Good Friday holiday.   “AMI” means Alternative Method of Instruction.  On these days, students will not go to school, but work on learning off-site.

Much like what the SCCSD has been doing,  the SCCSD will have AMI packets available on each school’s website or the SCCSD website at www.sccsd.org. If needed, AMI packets will also be available for pick-up in the newspaper racks at Morrilton Elementary School (MES) that are labeled by school.   The SCCSD will be providing more information for additional “AMI” instruction material/options at a later date.  Please watch on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), download the district app, and the district website for more information.

Teachers will be available through various methods on “AMI” days from 8:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.-3:25 p.m. for any assistance.  Please continue to reach out and communicate with teachers.

Information about graduation will be forthcoming later.

The SCCSD will also provide lunches at no cost for students during the “AMI” days for distribution on Mondays for meals for the week.  There are two ways to order the meals for children under 18 years of age:

  1. Text in the order (501) 232-7502 prior to 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before the Monday pick-up for how many lunches are needed and what designated location to pick up the order.
  2. Go to and complete the electronic form prior to 10:00 a.m. on the Friday before the Monday pick-up at tinyurl.com/sccsdlunchorder, and place an order for how many lunches are needed and what designated location to pick up the order.

Sincerely,

Shawn Halbrook

Superintendent of Schools
