Veterans Day was established to honor all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive —it is intended to thank veterans for their sacrifices. It was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I.

Elmwood Cemetery, founded in 1919, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019 year. The 45-acre cemetery is the burial site of more than 5,000 people, including many of Morrilton’s founders and leaders. The Community Mausoleum in the cemetery, built in 1921, also was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.
