The South Conway County School District will not have school on Friday, January 30.

Many secondary roads, some state highways, and numerous roads used by our buses to transport more than 1,500 students are not safe at this time. While conditions will improve greatly on many roads this afternoon, roads that remain in the shade and dirt roads will not improve enough for safe travel.

In addition, the potential for additional winter precipitation tonight, combined with refreezing as temperatures fall below freezing, makes road conditions unpredictable for tomorrow morning.

If we are going to make an error, we will always make it on the side of maximizing the safety of our scholars, families, and staff.

We are attaching some pictures of our drive through the District today of Poor Farm Rd, Turkey Pond Loop, Solgohachia Road, Robb Road, Mt. Olive Road, Hwy. 92, and Hwy. 287.

After continued assessment of road conditions across our district, we have determined that roads outside the city of Morrilton remain packed with ice. While some melting is expected this afternoon, it will not be sufficient to safely improve conditions, particularly on secondary roads and bus routes.

As a result, the South Conway County School District will not have school tomorrow, Thursday, January 29.

This decision is made with one priority in mind: maximizing the safety of our scholars, families, and staff. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate these winter weather conditions.

Due to continued hazardous road conditions, the South Conway County School District will not have school on Tuesday, January 27.

Temperatures are not expected to rise above 32 degrees, which will cause refreezing and make travel on main roads dangerous. Side roads are not expected to improve.

This decision was made to maximize the safety of our scholars, families, and staff. We do not take this responsibility lightly and appreciate your understanding and support.

As winter weather is forecasted for our area this weekend, we encourage all SCCSD families and staff to be cautious and stay safe.

The South Conway County School District will be out on Sunday to assess road and campus conditions. Any decisions regarding school closures or delays will prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and families.

Highway 9 in Oppelo has been blocked due to a house fire. Buses 74 and 35 cannot complete their entire bus route due to Highway 9 being blocked. The SCCSD Transportation Department is attempting to make contact with all the families affected to try to make arrangements to meet the buses.
