Dear South Conway County School District Learning Community,

Keeping our students and staff safe is one of our highest responsibilities. As part of that commitment, SCCSD uses the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by The “I Love U Guys” Foundation. Our students and staff train, practice, and drill these procedures so that everyone understands what to do during an emergency.

Attached is a Parent and Guardian Guide to the Standard Response Protocol. I encourage every family to take a few minutes to review it. The SRP gives schools, students, families, and first responders a common language built around five actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.

One of the most important distinctions for families to understand is the difference between Secure and Lockdown. A Secure is used when there is a potential danger outside the building. Everyone is brought inside, exterior doors are locked, and activities inside the school may continue as normally as possible. A Lockdown is used when there is an active threat inside or very near the building, and students and staff follow the “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” procedures.

The attached guide also provides helpful information about what parents should do during an emergency, student pickup and communication, and how we conduct safety drills. When we conduct a drill, students will be informed that it is a drill as part of the initial announcement.

Please take time to review and discuss this information with your family. Having a shared understanding of these procedures helps us respond calmly, clearly, and consistently when it matters most.

SCCSD Families, Due to the ongoing power outage, all K–12 students in the South Conway County School District will dismiss today at 1:25 p.m. Pre-K students will dismiss at 1:55 p.m. Morrilton High School, Morrilton Junior High School, and Morrilton Intermediate School are currently without power and phone service. Based on the information we have received, power is not expected to be restored until after 3:30 p.m.

Morrilton Intermediate School Families, We want to make you aware of a transformer issue that supplies power to Morrilton Intermediate School. Entergy will need to make a repair, and we anticipate that power to the campus may be temporarily interrupted. Our plan at this time is to make sure students are served lunch and then continue classes as normally as possible. With the cooler temperatures today, we believe we can continue instruction while closely monitoring conditions in the building. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our priority. We are staying in communication with Entergy and will provide additional information as soon as we know more. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001. We honor the lives that were lost, the families who continue to carry that grief, and the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger in service of others. May we never forget the sacrifice, the bravery, and the unity our nation showed in the face of tragedy.
